Erasmus Mundus Students and Alumni Association (EMA)

EMA is a network for students and alumni of all Erasmus Mundus Masters Course (EMMC) programmes. Since its establishment through an initiative of the European Commission in June 2006, EMA has been working constantly to advance the Erasmus Mundus programme, and to offer a platform where students and alumni can exchange information and experiences. All EMA activities are performed by members on a voluntary basis, and in cooperation with the European Commission.

The mission of the Erasmus Mundus Students and Alumni Association is to serve the interests of Erasmus Mundus Students and Alumni, notably by providing a forum for networking, communication and collaboration and by promoting Erasmus Mundus as a European programme of excellence in international education.

EMA Chapter is founded by EMA members with an exclusive focus on a certain geographical region. It is recognized by the EMA as representing the EMA on the regional level. EMA Chapters are dedicated to networking and promoting Erasmus Mundus within that region.

Further information on EMA, including how to register and participate, events, news items, and magazines can be found here.

EMA SEA Chapter

The idea of establishing EMA SEA Chapter is dated back to 1st November 2008, when a group of Southeast Asian EM alumni, gathered in Jakarta at the 3rd EMA networking event. During dinner, they shared their experience, thoughts, feedback, and vision which they have as an EM alumni. Further, they recognized and agreed that there is a need to create a stronger bond between alumni in the region to cooperate in promoting EM as the program of excellence higher education in Europe, collaborate in various areas such as job information, improving EM policy, giving continuous feedback to EMMC, having tighter relationship with industry to promote EM graduates as skillful and qualified individuals, and contributing in various conferences and events held by EMA.

At the declaration, the alumni agreed to assign Iqbal Akbar (Indonesia) and Chaidarun Iamphak (Thailand) as the temporary caretaker until the chapter is officially established. From that moment until now, both of them has worked hand-in-hand excellently to establish the chapter.

EMA SEA Chapter members are the EM students & alumni from 11 Southeast Asian countries: Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, East Timor, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam. As of July 2009, 144 students & alumni has registered themselves, and will be the initial member on the official declaration of the chapter which is scheduled to due in October 2009 in Bangkok.
